Compliance Alert – Updates to goods e-invoice (NF-e) for animal, plant, and forestry product tracking

Update: Compliance Alert – Updates to goods e-invoice (NF-e) for animal, plant, and forestry product tracking
Date: 2024-10-04

On 17 September 2024, Technical Note (NT) 2024.003 introduced essential updates to the Goods Electronic Invoice (NF-e), focusing on the transit of live animals, plant, and forestry products. These changes aim to enhance legal compliance and improve tracking and control mechanisms for these goods.

What are the changes?

  • Changes to the NF-e Layout: A new manual provides detailed guidelines for including transit guide information for primary products, live animals (for reproduction or food), plant derivatives, and forestry products. These layout modifications allow stricter oversight of product movements, as mandated by the National Strategy to Combat Corruption and Money Laundering (ENCCLA);
  • Validation Rules: One fundamental change is the mandatory inclusion of the Forest Origin Document (DOF), required by IBAMA to control the transportation and storage of native forest products. For states that don’t use the DOF, NT 2024.003 maintains this field in the NF-e to ensure smooth operations.

What are the impacts?

These updates reinforce the traceability of agricultural and forestry products, helping authorities better monitor product origins and movements. Compliance with IBAMA and ENCCLA regulations will improve, and businesses involved in these sectors will need to update their systems accordingly.

Implementation timelines

  • Approval environment (company testing environment): 2 October 2024;
  • Production Environment: 1 April 2025.
