On 18 December 2024, the GSTN issued an advisory following the integration of the E-Way Bill (EWB) system with the Indian Railways Freight Operation Information System (FOIS) via API.
With the new integration of systems, taxpayers must adhere to the guidelines for entering Railway Receipt Number (RR)/eT-RRs into the EWB system. Key points from the guideline are:
- Enter the correct RR No./eT-RRs when transporting goods via FOIS, using the standardized format
- Update Part B of the EWB system for rail transportation
- Ensure the RR No. is entered in the correct format in the EWB system for goods transported via FOIS
- The EWB system will validate the RR No./eT-RRs against FOIS data, triggering alerts if mismatches are detected
- Accurate entry of RR No./eT-RRs is crucial for smoothly verifying goods transported via Indian Railways.
